Product Pinning and Manual Control

Pin the products that must be seen to exact positions. Automatic sorting fills every other slot around them, and pins can release themselves when they are no longer needed.

How Pinning Works

A pin fixes a product to a position in a collection: first, third, or wherever the campaign needs it. On every automatic re-sort the pinned products stay where they are, and the remaining products are ordered around them by the collection's sorting rule or by Merchandiser AI.

Pins always take precedence over the automatic order.

Example

  1. 1. Campaign product Pinned
  2. 2. Highest-scoring product Sorted
  3. 3. New collection piece Pinned
  4. 4. Next-highest-scoring product Sorted
Two pinned products hold positions 1 and 3; positions 2 and 4 are filled by the automatic sort.

Working on the Sort Page

Every collection has a sort page that shows its products in order, as cards with their stock, weekly sales and time on the market.

  • Pin to a position. Give a product the position it should hold.
  • Drag and drop. Move a product by hand, or send it to the top or the bottom in one step.
  • Match your storefront grid. Set how many products are shown per row, so the page looks like the shelf your customers see.
  • Preview a sort. Try another sort type, with or without the current pins, before you save. Nothing changes on your store until then.

Pin Many Products at Once

For a campaign with dozens of products, pinning one by one is slow. Upload a pin list instead: a spreadsheet with an SKU column and a Pin column that holds the position of each product.

The easiest way to make one is to export the collection's product list, which already has both columns, fill in the positions and upload the file again.

The file is the complete pin list of the collection. Products with an empty Pin cell, and products that are missing from the file, are unpinned.

Pins That Clean Up After Themselves

Pins are easy to set and easy to forget. A pin from last month's campaign can hold the first row long after the campaign has ended. Each collection has settings against that:

  • Auto unpin after a set time. Pins are released automatically once they are older than the period you choose.
  • Unpin products that are missing a size. Once any size of a pinned product is out of stock, its pin is released and the product returns to the automatic sort.
  • Unpin all. Clear every pin of a collection in one step.

Keeping Pins Under Control

The collection list shows how many products are pinned in each collection. The Collection Health Score has a signal for it too: when a large share of a collection is pinned, manual positions start to block better-performing products, and the score says so.

Pin changes are recorded like any other change. The version history shows how many pins changed in each version, who made the change and when.

Who Can Pin

Ranking is the everyday work of a merchandising team, so every panel user of your account can sort, pin and unpin. Changing a collection's settings, such as its sorting rule, its frequency or its auto-unpin period, is reserved for managers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do pinned products move when a collection is re-sorted?

No. A pinned product stays at its position on every automatic re-sort; the other products are sorted around it.

Can pins expire on their own?

Yes. A collection can be set to release its pins automatically after a period you choose, and to release the pin of any product that has a size out of stock.

Can I pin many products at once?

Yes. Upload a spreadsheet with an SKU column and a Pin column that holds the position of each product. The collection's exported product list already has both columns.

Do pins work with every sort type?

Pins apply to every automatic sort: sorting rules, similar-product grouping and Merchandiser AI.
