How It Works
Shopify lets an app set the order of the products in a collection through its Admin API. Merchandiser uses exactly that: it calculates the order of each collection from your data and saves it on the collection. Shopify then shows the collection in that order, as it does for any collection you arrange by hand.
Nothing runs in your storefront. There is no script, no app block and no change to your theme.
What Merchandiser Reads
- Products
- Active, published products with their title, vendor, product type, image, price, compare-at price and the date they were created.
- Variants
- SKU, barcode, options such as size and color, whether the variant can be sold and how many units can be sold online. Size availability is calculated from these.
- Collections
- The collections each product belongs to.
- Metafields
- Product metafields, for attributes your store keeps there.
- Orders
- The products in your orders of the last day, week and month, to count sales.
Views, add-to-carts, revenue and conversion rate come from Google Analytics 4.
What Merchandiser Writes
- The order of products in a collection. This is the result of every sort, including your pins.
- The sort mode of a collection. Shopify only accepts a product order on collections that are sorted manually. A collection that Shopify sorts automatically, for example by best selling, is switched to manual sorting when Merchandiser first applies an order to it.
- The products of a smart collection. For collections whose products are chosen by Merchandiser, which we set up with you, products are added to and removed from the Shopify collection.
Merchandiser does not change your products, prices, stock, orders or theme.
What You Provide
- An app with Admin API access. You create it in your Shopify admin. It needs to read products and orders and to write products, which is the permission Shopify requires for reordering a collection. We send you the exact list of access scopes during set-up.
- A GA4 property, if you want views and add-to-carts to count in the ranking.
Staying in Sync
Your catalog is read again on a schedule, so new products, price changes and stock changes reach Merchandiser without any action from you. Each collection is re-sorted at its own sort frequency, and a collection whose order has changed is sent to Shopify.
Every run is recorded. The panel shows whether the product feed and the sync jobs succeeded, how long they took and what failed. See how integrations are monitored.
